What is a Calibration Kit? Print E-mail
In short, a calibration kit is used mostly for analog hygrometers and works the same way as the “salt test”.  The kit utilizes a relative humidity standard of approximately 75%. The way the kit works is by simply placing the analog hygrometer into the bag of the calibration kit and let it sit for 24 hours. Afterwards, the analog hygrometer will be calibrated and will read properly the humidity level within the humidor.

Advice

Is a humidor supposed to be airtight?
No. The constant movement of air is critical to the proper storage and care of cigars or else it will create a condition which can promote the growth of mold. Even a humidor that is kept at 69-72% humidity level can grow mold very quickly and destroy your cigars. A good, high quality humidor with dried kiln Spanish cedar wood have an exchange of air as it needs to be as the lining is made of a porous material.

Quick Tips

Analog Hygrometer versus Digital Hygrometer?
The hygrometer in a humidor is used to properly measure the level of humidity within a humidor. It is essential that the hygrometer is calibrated and at an understood level where it will accurately measure the humidity within. Any analog hygrometer has a much larger variance than a digital hygrometer. Over time, this variance grows even further (approximately between 5-10%). The digital hygrometer has a much smaller variance of approximately 2-3%
